If I stab your brain with an icepick, your personality will change. How on earth can you have a soul?

I affected your physical body, but it will have drastic effects on you or your %26quot;soul%26quot;. How can you claim the two are independent?

If you've heard about Phineas Gage, you might remember that his personality had changed so much after the accident, the contractors who had employed him would not give him his place again. Before the accident he had been their most capable and efficient foreman, one with a well-balanced mind, and who was looked on as a shrewd smart business man. He was now fitful, irreverent, and grossly profane, showing little deference for his fellows. He was also impatient and obstinate, yet capricious and vacillating, unable to settle on any of the plans he devised for future action. His friends said he was %26quot;No longer Gage.%26quot;

Personality does not change with an icepick on brain.

It is now known that even when a considerable amount of brain is removed

through surgery, a person can still have reasonable mental abilities and

can lead a near normal life. Modern research found that one region in

brain can perform several tasks and so can compensate for the loss of

damage of another region.

It's far more accurate to say that I would be dead if you did that.
%26quot;soul%26quot; is just the term people use for the part of them they cant explain...
I consider it relatively unsurprising that a near-death experience would have profound changes upon a person's personality, even if merely through shock.

The friends of that person were simply unwilling to consider Gage as an individual capable of growing and experiencing new things under his own steam, and they sound a little like assholes imho.

As for the question of the soul, i think my answer just made that irrelevant.

Attacking a person's brain with an icepick does not necessarily cause them to change as a result of physical changes - well, unless they're dead or in a coma.

So long as they have the memory of who they once were then they can stay the same.
Whats makes you think our souls reside inside or even anywhere near our brain? You need to do some serious research on exactly what a soul is, it has nothing to do with our brain or it's functions.
Did his personality truly change, or did his ability to contain his true personality for social reasons diminish along with the reasoning parts of his brain. Ability to reason, personality, and soul are three distinctly different things
easy, brain and soul are two different things. and soul and body are two different things. and personality and soul are two different things. How is that hard to understand?
Let's NOT replicate this in the lab, thanks...
The Soul is not same as your personality, mind, body etc.

No body can claim that for others!! Only you can, if you are ready to investigate.

There is a practice to know this for sure:

Start watching your thoughts without missing a single one for 24hours. You can get at least a hint that you are definitely not your thoughts and personality.

If you are not that much serious, then believe what ever you like to.

People say most of the religious people are blind believers, I agree to that and I also add that most of the non-religious people are the same too.
The soul is the part of you that is the sum of your experiences, it is connected to god, via electrical impulses.

A persons action will not effect their after life. The Supreme Being doesn't care about everyday things It wants experiences good or bad from us. It grows and thrives on sharing us.

Our energy is where we live. If the body has been damaged the soul continues to experience at what ever level it can.

At the time of death the soul goes into a different dimension where god lives we exchange our experiences, discuss our life...we then go to the summer land (a natural setting of joy and pleasure). We then take time off enjoy ourselves, if we choice we can enter another baby .
